Great piece — thanks for putting it in perspective.

OMG think about the dolphins!

I’m just sick and pissed that such a website had to be created. As many problems as I have with VW of America, the arrogant SOBs in Germany, and even my local dealer, I still love the cars, their engineering and the feeling I get when I drive one.

Your reading comprehension is only matched by your eloquence.

I feel bad for the people that have to answer phone calls and emails.

Exactly right! People get outraged over this ‘up to 40 times’, (a) which is an ‘up to’ estimate (b) which is based on a real world test that is stricter than lab conditions - without cheating and (c) as you said, still a lot less than what had previously been allowed.

thank you for posting this. I have been telling friends, coworkers, family about the same info as you posted.

Thank you for taking the time for writing this piece and for including cites. Seriously, I appreciate the time it took and found it informative. I think the time has come to revisit the rules and the bureaucracy that’s evolved to administer them.

You will be wrong. The prices of these cars will plummet. The “fix” to these cars will either decrease both their efficiency AND performance or take up space on the car with a urea injection. The cars are not going to just keep existing as they are, they are getting recalled. You usually have solid advice, but this

OTOH...hellacious deals on used TDI’s coming soon to a dealer near you!

That thing is such an electron guzzler

Coffee is fuel, right?

Go ahead, ask me how much money it cost me to take this thing that far.

I drive a Prius. Does this negate every single “shoulda bought a diesel bro” comment on Jalopnik I’ve been forced to read over the past 10 years?
