Agreed, but why? If the movie were great, would nobody have watched the series (they already watched)? It's not as if HBO would air the film and then PGL, so I knew by scheduling it at 10pm on a Monday it could not be very good from the first promo I saw. HBO will play a movie like That's My Boy 30 times a month

Call me weird, but he was the most human person on that show and I felt his pain having been there. A shit sandwich doesn't taste any better if you sit around for 12 hours with people who think somehow you can magically turn it into a BLT.

"It likely brought in an affluent, younger demographic, aka "cord cutters", and the race / gender issues gave them both traditional and social media buzz, resulting in even more young, affluent eyeballs."

Brilliant!

It's not what you say, but how you say it. People who are patronizing and sing songy get disregarded, has nothing to do with sex.

Disagree with you totally. Women who do not try to assert themselves and stand out as "women in film" get plenty of respect. After 20+ years in the biz I have never once heard any guy say that a woman does not belong or treat them any differently then men. I've had some great Gaffers who are women and always tell

The final episode of PGL made me want to strangle Jason Mann. Not only does he not appreciate the opportunity and the money that could have paid to feed a town for a year, but his contempt during his note session made me hope he never works in film again. Len Amato (who happens to look exactly like the housekeeper

You can read my post with my accounting estimate and thoughts on how much the savings would equate to more crew and better results. I noticed by the stunt scene that not only was film a bad choice, but there seems to be a lack of any workflow on the set (I never see anyone calling for playback) of what was just shot

Effie clearly needs more responsibility and not less cause she does seem to have a lot of time to talk shit and have discussions about bullshit in an effort to slow down production. Clearly everything was going so very well and smoothly that they were making their days with time and money to spare.

I really don't know if other people on-set, including those involved in Effie's personal race struggle (The actor, Jason, Van), took the issue at the time as being such a big thing, and I don't know why it was. When you see a large amount of background players they are "wrangled". It's not like they audition, they

I don't know exactly why the tools production have become so inexpensive and commoditized, yet the budgets have gone up 300% in just a decade since the first PGL and that was shot on film, on multiple locations, with acclaimed actors (Hunt, Quinn, Pollack), under 18 actors, vintage wardrobe and picture cars. I agree

About the only fun of the show is watching the white guys squirm and thinking what their inner monologue is saying.

Point well taken.
I'm all for team talent too, which is what makes PGL frustrating because the talent seems mismatched. I re-watched the full short, it's very decent on many levels, but I'm not taken aback by the cinematography being breathtaking, it is however more than competent and lighting and tone are natural

Agreed, but I've been on stunt shoots gone wrong with a car flip, where the shot was mis timed and there was a near miss not to mention the shot being misframed because of the missed mark, but it was a quintessential moment in the film so we shot some extra stuff to make it work since they only had one camera car.

It's clear you are Team Jason, and I would never disparage someone I've never met, so I'm sure he's talented if everyone respects his work.

As an aside, please LA, quit it with the creepster hugs.
You're going to work on day six of 20 on a film, and not going off to fight a war in Afghanistan or seeing your Bubbie Jenny at a Wedding.

Being the total math geek that I am, I crunched the numbers on the film vs. digital debate and used some conservative figures assuming that Jason knows film the way he says he does, cause the execs threw out 300K without even thinking about it.

Not to sound like a troll, and I may be part wrong on this, but…

So I assume you are in agreement with me that lighting is a lost art? The emphasis on particular fixtures or technology does not really teach people how many tricks of the trade there are. I can get down and dirty with one light or even no light and a scrap of bead board or even tin foil in a pinch for certain

I don't know if I mentioned teaching… I did actually teach college when I was in college, before dropped out of college because I realized that if professors let a kid who had barely replaced his baby fat with his beer gut teach their classes at a top rated TV/Radio/Film program; well…
