Midway through re-reading the trilogy finale, and to complement my fix I re-watched the movie. I thought that they actually did a not bad job of telling the story, Nicole Kidman was reportedly Pullman’s choice for Mrs. Coulter anyway, but of course not having the religious theme was ludicrous and the ending is a huge

I got to see the first 3 episodes, and oh god............ Makes a crone young again.

I am very dumb or just old, because I have no idea what happened. Or what didn’t happen. Someday it will be spelled out in words of one syllable for me.

It used to be a real literary feat: you had to respond in Welsh, in rhyme. I knew someone whose grandfather was quite good at it.

I had meant to celebrate the Winter Solstice on Saturday but instead stumbled across Rogue One on TNT’s Star Wars marathon, so watched that instead. (It’s the one with Felicity Jones that ends just before the action of the original Star Wars. I never could keep all the titles straight.) I’d seen it before, but in

I saw the Mr. Magoo version lo these many years ago, and I still remember some of the songs.

To people who are devoted to promoting respect for all persons, I would advise not using demeaning, derogatory terms such TERF for people with whom you disagree. Otherwise you cannot claim the high ground.

Nothing racially insensitive about this. If Jesus is the son of God he doesn’t have to look like Joseph.

It is so dispiriting to see well-known stories dragged through the mud so that we are left with no doubt as to the ugliness of the world. (For one example, the last several takes on Robin Hood.) We are not edified, but end up being served an orgy of brutality for its own sake.

What we need is a movie about a batshit author.

Omigod, I’ve been outed!

I guess I should be happy that I’m looking at the clip on a computer and it looks fine.

The whole concept of a movie of a musical, especially one with very little dialogue or ordinary action, is faintly ridiculous to begin with, unless it’s a theatrical simulcast of the Metropolitan Opera. Yet I will probably go see the movie, because oh why not.

Just wait...

Maybe he (or you) can find a nice Air BnB.

Without any prompting from me, my Caucasian daughter chose Addy, Josefina, and an Asian Bitty Baby. She used to dress Josefina as a South Asian.

On the census forms there used to be a category of “Asian/Pacific islander”. The government hasbeen offering much more specific categories since then. I always thought “Asian” was a ridiculous term: like Indians and Chinese are the same race?

So I skipped the fight scene for nothing!

Re. the inaccurately overly nice house: let’s just imagine that they own it outright, so there is no mortgage. But the house being new instead of neglected and falling apart is a little off-putting. Maybe they wanted to underscore that this is our modern world and not Lyra’s world? And how come her room at Jordan Colle

Lord Boreal is crossing into this-world Oxford, not London. I find him (the actor, actually) to be strangely intriguing, even though he is from the Dark Side.
