Yes - “up the river” and you’re going to Sing Sing; “down the river” and you’ll be picking cotton.

I have to say that I never thought of Lee Israel being Jewish, despite the admittedly Jewish last name. Nor did I notice Melissa McCarthy’s nose. Nor do I think it is important to have had Israel played by a heavy actress. Lots of people have been played by actors who did not resemble them a great deal. Much was made…
Ah, Dairy Queen... the one and only chain business, outside of gas stations, in my hometown once upon a time. Now I live nowhere near a Dairy Queen so no cone for me, even without the regulation chocolate dip. But I can dream, can’t I?
I like watching Norah interview priests, because she doesn’t take the Vatican BS.
An employment counselor once suggested: “I was not successful in my last position and I understand why.”
Reminds me of “Brick”.
Just to be clear, Pirro wasn’t talking about Omar’s race, but her religion, and thus those remarks were an example of bigotry, not racism.
I remember when the answers (i.e. questions) were printed on cards on the board, and the questions (i.e. answers) were on other cards that would drop down in front. No video!
The efforts of a “first” can sometimes seem crude, in retrospect. I attended one her talks at a local museum. I didn’t care to see photos of her dead cat, but she was a dynamic speaker. R.I.P.

A guilty pleasure of mine is to loiter around the coin-sorting machine at the supermarket, because there are often coins that run through instead of being conseved. Usually it’s pennies, but there are often Canadian coins, British coins, or euro coins. I got a loonie once! I was so thrilled! I might save other odd…
For a time the US and Canadian dollars were equal in value, so Canadians would just take the US dollars. I’ve seldom seen US merchants accept Canadian bills, though, unless they were near the border.
I prefer to keep it simple and use local currency. Also it makes me feel more like a local, but I could be wrong. In France I did have to use my debit card a few times , which I normally never use, at ATMs, because outside of Paris the banks didn’t do currency exchange.
Depends on the card - I get charged for currency conversion when I get home and pay my bill.
To leave this tragic reality and step into fantasyland for a moment, I can’t help thinking “poor Archie - he’s gone through so much trauma already.”
You never know what goes on in those quaint rural villages!
Sadly, running females seem to trigger the predator mechanism in the brains of some male humans.
I’m old enough to be his teenaged mother, so I already feel pretty mortal right now.
I watched “Free Solo” on the National Geographic channel, biting my nails, even though a) I knew Alex Honnels made it up the rockface, and b) I had already seen the film. At the Oscars I was pleased to see that evidently he is still with his girlfriend Sanni McCandless.
