There is a woman king in Ghana (I think), who is also a secretary in Washington DC. She was on The Daily Show or Colbert, can’t remember which. She explained that as far as her culture is concerned the office she holds is king of her tribe, and so she is a king, not a queen.

Thank you - I thought I was going to be the only person to point out the grotestque irony. And the movie wasn’t even that good! I can’t believe the animation members voted for his entry over the other brilliant nominees.

Don’t forget squirrels and raccoons.

The $30 a month diet? I might try that.

Nah, the oil makes it flow.

I had to have my mother take me to see “Alfie” because it was “For Mature Audiences” - before the MPAA ratings. Fantastic set of actresses: Millicent Martin, Vivien Merchant, Jane Asher, Shelley Winters among them. Cher sang the theme song on the soundtrack.

No one turns on Lady Cate. She is a goddess.

Brie who? (Just kidding.)

There is a long tradition of the erotic subtext of tough guys being cared for by women when they are sick/wounded - going back at least as far as mediaeval romances but must be older - and surprisingly, this is what actually inspired the entire movie.

Does anyone remember the TV-movie version with Kristoffer Tabori?

“Remember” had such an otherwordly sound for the fall of 1964 - I’d never heard anythng like it, except for the mystery of “Sally Go ‘Round the Roses” the year before. Then Mary and the others went from buns and good-girl dresses to “The Leader of the Pack” and motorcycle-chick chic. Thirteen, eighth grade, good

Kurt Browning! I miss him. Scott Hamilton’s affectionate assessment: “If that boy would just work...”

You too?

Five of the Canadian women played for the U.S. university I work at so I had to root for the hometown girls, but by the third period I was hoping the U.S. would win so they could be put out of their misery. Stayed up till the bitter/sweet end at 2.15 a.m.

But he’s such a good scenery-chewer.

“Samson and Delilah” with Victor Mature - one of the great sword-&-sandal movies.

The late great Margot Kidder got into doing Christian movies. She said they paid well and paid on time, and every time she played one of the bad guys she made sure to wear a cross.

Wow, I knew the halter had broken but I missed the details. I’ll have to sit closer to the TV next time.

Sometimes we want to see movies and TV series that reflect the lives we are living, and sometimes we don’t because we are already living it. However limp this film may be, if you’re 67, have been widowed twice, and have been living in the same house for half your life, it might resonate with you.

Yeah, even the camerman tried to avoid the crotch shots. There was no way she could pull it down, either.
