I think it’s a pretty cool car but as mentioned, it’s not a vistacruiser and is a very low-end model with some strange options/add-ons. Should have plenty of power — no replacement for displacement!

I have driven quite a few — although I don’t think the standard rent-a-malibu comes along with the turbo. Whatever it in it today is sloooooooowwwwww.
Sorry you think I’m trolling. I’ve owned loads of different vehicles across my life and had phenomenal luck with the GM products I’ve owned. The 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0L V8s with the 4L80E and 6L80E in my experience have been reliable and bullet proof. In my Yukon, I traded it in with 175K on it and nary a single drivetrain…
I’ve owned more than a few GM trucks and have always been happy. I haven’t owned any of the modern cars and probably wouldn’t considering how much I’ve hated them as rentals. I still don’t loathe them as much as anything with a pentastar or a mopar logo on it but I’d much rather have a Ford (if we’re talking American)…
Uh, yep. I have an almost 2 year old son and my wife's about to give birth to a daughter. My appointment to ensure this never happens again is on the first of May.
OMG, GMC shut up and take my money! Oh, that’s right — National Rent-a-car shut up and take my money.
Not that anyone would actually consider DD-ing this heap but it’s pretty bog-standard 80s Chrysler. Can you imagine being next to that thing when one of the “wood” panels lets go at 50MPH?
If someone is looking for a seriously capable offroad vehicle, they aren’t looking at either of these offerings. There are ‘real’ SUVs with ‘real’ capability. Most Subaru owners (round here) buy them because it occasionally snows in Colorado and they might need AWD so they can drive around on bald tires.
My guess is it’ll be reasonably reliable (I’ve had great VW luck over the last few years.) It’ll also have fantastic power and a diesel option. If they go with the torsen center diff, it could be a real Subaru-beater.
My mom had an ‘84 Subaru GL she bought brand new when I was 3. In 1991 they traded it off for roughly the price of a bumper on a Toyota truck. It was a good car then but in the 29 years this has aged it hasn’t appreciated in value. CP all the way.
If Lincoln builds it, I'll at least rent it and will probably cross-shop it when it's time to get a new car. Still leaning toward an LS460 (or an S-class off lease...Thanks Tavarish.) It'll be awhile though — our cars are still new-ish.
It's people (like me now) who say: I need a car that is good enough, very reliable, nice enough, and I don't have to ever fuck with it. #drivingappliance
This is probably the most apt description I've ever read about it. It's a bog-standard rental box that does nothing to excite anyone. It's not fast, it's not slow, the transmission isn't great but it also isn't bad. The interior is pretty mediocre and the gauge cluster looks cheap. Heck, most of the interior (while a…
Haha — I seriously laughed out loud at that. For what it's worth, I bought the LC in Chicago (off lease) and drove it home to Denver where it appreciated. My wife had never been to Chicago and never seen the great lakes so we left the kiddo with family and made a weekend of it.
I hear you — I see 100-series crushers around here everywhere! A nice timeless design that ran for a decade and maintains its value extremely well. Routinely available in the $20K-range with hundredS of thousandS of miles on them. Well maintained examples are snatched off Colorado dealer lots within days.
I love my Land Cruiser. I cross-shopped it with a Denali and bought the LC since I'd already owned a nice Yukon. That being said, I rent LTZ Tahoes all the time. VERY nice trucks.
I don't know man. The power you get out of a range vs the power the outback doesn't have...pretty bad. Just remember: keep right except to pass.
I don't know Doug. My wife had a car with 6(!) cameras, sensors front and rear and still managed to routinely slam it into the house when parking in the garage. All 4 wheels have curb rash, and I've given up polishing out scuff-marks.
Fair enough!
