I have to say, the one tattoo I would consider getting is inspired by a doctor friend of the family. When he turned 65, he got DNR tattooed over his heart. Just to be sure.

“Akerlof is, indeed, a very distinguished academic economist, but unlike, say, Janet Yellen he’s not actually known for work on monetary issues. He also, unlike Yellen, doesn’t have more than a decade of experience in central banking.” (emphasis mine)

Wait a minute - you stopped watching football in part because it was so slow, and you switch to futbol? Haven’t you ever watched a hockey. Fast paced, constant action with (usually) very little interference from the refs. It’s also the single best live sports experience there is.

The NFL needs to follow the NBA and seed playoff berths by the best records in the conference. That way, a division winner with am 8-8 record may be about a sixth seed, which they deserve, while division runner up with a 10-6 record could be a three or or four. Makes much more sense for divisions like the AFC East,

I agree. I just don’t think it’s fair to call out Jezebel for using the exact same words as the stories subjects used.

“Three of them likened the atmosphere at Rent the Runway to the 2004 film Mean Girls. Each one made that reference separately, without prodding.”

Are there any professional make-up artists/costumers out there who can answer a question about this poison by temporary tattoo thing? I had just assumed she was wearing a sheer body stocking with the tattoos printed on it. Is there a reason they can’t do it that way, or maybe a combo of some leotard/sleeves and some

Oh dear - she’s so close! Some of the stuff is not bad - until you get to the batwing blouses, which look horrible on every body type; the button down blouses with no waist darts; and the horrible mushy, muted prints. Love the jeans and leggings, and some of the tops, but how is wearing a huge faux fur vest or coat

Good to know!

My great uncle was also a doctorate. He was on a plane one time (years ago) when there was a medical emergency. The flight attendants looked at the passenger list, and saw “Dr.” in front of his name, so they went to his seat and asked if he could help. His reply was “yes, I’m a doctor, but not the useful kind.”

My absolute best costume ever was the year I went as a lobster with a sign saying $15 per pound” around my neck. Not sure why my mother let me out of the house with that, but it was a fucking great costume.

Anyone else think that the statue/trophy thing this year is going to be Viola Davis’s Emmy?

Being an old and never having heard the phrase “it me” before, I usually just go with “I resemble that remark.” Depending on the preceeding remark, of course.

A short while after my grandfather died, his brother (my great-uncle Charles) asked my grandmother to marry him ( I truly do think it was out of a sense of duty). She said no, but they remained friends. Fast forward to my grandmother’s funeral. The immediate family was gathering in the rabbi’s office until just before

Wait - “special needs” dog as in a comfort animal, or “special needs” as in “our dog has brain damage because we left him in the car for an hour on a 90 degree day while we sat in air conditioning and got our server fired?”

Glad I’m not the only one who thinks she’s not even worth the effort it takes to read less than 140 characters.

One of my favorite Grahm Norton clips is when he pulled out an electronic keyboard and asked Will Smith to sing the theme song. The entire audience sang along.

After my grandmother died and was cremated, my brother took some of her ashes with him when he returned to Tanzania, where he was living. He and some of his friends held a ceremony on Mt. Kilimanjaro, and spread her ashes there. We also had another ceremony during a family reunion on the Russian river in California,

Before she married my father, my mother made sure he understood that if Danny Kaye called, she was out the door.

Did anyone else notice that the sheep in that racing picture are named Mint Sauce and Ewe-Turn?
