@Skeetz: hehe you almost got me to reveal what IHV I work for! Nice one!

@Skeetz: We put them (the cables) in the box for the customer so in effect we saved the money on not using HDMI to be able to give the customer a cable.

@Skeetz: Well you see I work for one of those IHV's which is why I know a little about this topic and we decided that HDMI did not fit the price point for development costs on our products and gave HDMI the boot for Displayport.

@alexLmx6: The standards organization VESA went through some tough times while HDMI was being created and the VESA Displayport was just VERY late to the game due to the troubles VESA was having.

@framitz: This is the one valid reason I have seen here and I admit to having to do this myself. HDMI just came first and on my PS3 and 360 it is the superior port to use because Displayport is not present on these devices.

@freedomweasel: I still respectfully disagree.

@marksman7328: no technical benefits, but most definitely a monetary one. Displayport is an open VESA standard. HDMI is owned by Sony and a few others and inflates the cost of the CE device to cover the "rental" of the HDMI specification.

I disagree with the supposition at the end of the article. HDMI is not the best as they say it is for two reasons.

I don't care how anyone tries to justify this crap. The subscribers don't have a dog in this fight and a) they get punished by both companies in missed programming and b)subscribers get doubly screwed because when these two companies resolve their differences the subscriber is stuck covering the now increased bill.

I'm convinced most every day that JD Powers & Assoc. are high on LSD.

PNG exclusively. When you keep them all in PNG you can make GIF or JPEG low rez versions from the original PNG.

Or you could retain your sanity and use PNG which is far better than both these formats.
