I agree. I commute by train daily in a big city, and find it pretty relaxing as compared to riding bumper to bumper / parking, etc.
Depending on the job, $8k of hardware could be peanuts when compared with the productivity gains of those 80 minutes per day, week after week.
Since the role of the engineers is at least partially as crash-test dummy in self-driving cars, them reacting as a normal driver would to the circumstances they’re exposed to is a pretty useful outcome for their time spent.
