What do you mean “trying” to make history fake news? That’s almost been a national pastime through the history of our country. Read this book for a great summary- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lies_My_Teacher_Told_Me

Other bonus points for the train: The station was 1 mile from my destination while the airport was ~30 minutes and a much more costly taxi/Uber ride. In Philly I got off the train, up the stairs just outside the train door, then a ~50 foot walk to a cab just outside of the station. I was at my final destination in…
I second everything here and have two additional comments:
1) Not every route does not have assigned seats. I know that the Autotrain between DC and Orlando assigns seats (bottom levels are better and more difficult to get) and there may be others.
2) “gentle side-to-side rocking” depends on the track you’re on and how…
Too bad you’re coming from NC- the Autotrain between DC and Orlando (no other route) is the best way to get a bunch of kids and a minivan to FL.
You sure took Amtrak on a bad route. Try it on the NE corridor where they actually turn a profit and you’ll see a bit of a difference. DC to Philly in particular is both much cheaper and faster than flying. Also, the Autotrain is awesome- considering this is Jalopnik I’m surprised that wasn’t the one you tried first.…
I just took the train from DC to Philly (not NY, but kinda close) and it was $83 and took 2 hours. A flight would have taken 2 hours (if direct) and 5+ hours with a stopover and cost at least $267. Then you take into account you need to be at the train station 30 minutes early and the airport 2 hours early, no…
I was dumb right there with you thinking about the grout, but not sealant. That stuff doesn’t work well and wears off even when it does- epoxy grout is where it’s at. It may cost over 3x as much up-front, but it doesn’t stain and is incredibly easy to clean. So worth it- I’ll never tile with normal grout ever again.…
If you want peanut butter with the chocolate, why not use “Christmas Bells” and make the presentation more entertaining.
Unlike the other guy, I did get that it was just an intro thing and appreciate the paper airplane suggestions underneath, but thought I’d throw out that correction because people don’t read too good nowadays and I thought making that statement without the explicit correction would reinforce that pervasive misconception…
Just like many other things “everyone knows” it’s wrong that we don’t know how bees fly. We do know, and have known for a while-
I don’t look for a very good reason- if I do I’m more likely to flinch/have involuntary muscle twitches around the needle while it’s in. Makes it much more painful.
3D printed a batman mask for my mutt off Thingiverse (I had to massively upscale it for her huge block head). She didn’t wear it for long, but way longer than I got the cat to wear his plate mail armor.

This is overcomplicating something that is incredibly simple to do:
That’s already kind of happened in at least one place. Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me couldn’t handle the sheer number of ridiculous Trump-related headlines and stories, so they created a speed round of them and are calling it “The Trump Dump”.
I made this mistake in a recent comment too- you might expect these errors with lidar (which other autonomous vehicle control systems use) but Tesla’s system only uses radar that is not subject to optical reflection artifacts.
Good catch- I was thinking about the sensor packages used in other autonomous vehicle systems and not about Tesla’s specifically.
Maybe wavelength has something to do with it- this was a red laser in a scanner intended to capture the shape of a residual limb for fabricating prosthetic sockets. But I would guess that it might have something to do with how much better the performance of the tape is than the runway paint. I think the paint is just…
As someone who has used laser scanners on things with retroreflective tape on them (it’s difficult and requires very different settings than nonreflective surfaces), the first thing I thought was that the retroreflective graphics on the fire truck confused the lidar and autopilot system. But yeah, those highway signs…
I’m with you on the research and most of your points, except for the “ONLY reason” line. It’s the primary reason, but there are definitely sociopaths out there where their primary reason for doing it is that they enjoy abusing people - that they they need to do it / it works is just their excuse.
Two or three years after moving to our new house the old owners shipped three automatic watering timers ($20 each) to their old (and our current) house . I called Amazon & they said to keep them. Awesome timing, because I was actually going to order one for myself soon, so this saved me the trouble and the money, gave…
