The shareholders are in it for the cash. Presumably they’d see much more upside (especially in the short term) of a Tesla-Ford tie up than they would with Ford just on its own. Institutional investors would almost certainly approve it (although I don’t know what the powers of the Ford family might be to stop it)

Totally disingenuous. 40 seconds before the crash is an eternity, not “seconds before.” As other people have pointed out, the driver accelerated massively once the autopilot turned off. If he had kept going the speed limit (or slightly over as governed by autopilot) it would have been a lot longer than 40 seconds.
