Let’s be clear: no one is glossing over his portrayal of women in major movies. I’m not going to pat him on the back for those portrayals, either. It’s taken me some time, but as a woman of color, I have developed a sense of entitlement when it comes to well-rounded female characters on television and in the movies. I

Did it work.

Why doesn't she steal their paychecks like she stole their jokes.

Beauty is definitely cultural and subjective, then. She's attractive, absolutely. But I don't think I've ever thought of her (even early 90s her) as beautiful.

It's really, really good. I've seen nothing like it. I hope it survives these missteps by its producers and runs longer.

Trial and Error was brilliant and, I think, warrants a mention over The Good Place or Great News.

…. with Selina as his veep.

Worms! I'd kill those if I knew how to without making a mess.

Here's where my discomfort is coming from: If Trump were anything other than a straight, cis man, the joke would never have been written - let alone allowed to make its way to national television. For instance, it would have been a misogynistic thing to say about a female president suspected to have ties with Russia.

I just noticed your comment - I share your sentiments and wouldn't have posted my note if I had seen yours earlier.

That's part of why I love this show. As a person of color myself, I can attest to how exhausting it is to be cast in stereotypes by virtually everyone you run into - and especially white people. So it's refreshing to watch a show in which people of color are shown to have "regular" experiences - that a story can be

It's not just Canadian! It's British, so really everywhere in the commonwealth they say zed.

You're being a little too generous there, though. You suggest that icky male writers are somehow able to view non-celebrity females as actual human beings.

Pope opera.

I am not a black woman, but I am a woman of color and I already found this to be a breath of fresh air: and somehow easing at the end of a loooong day (one of about 1000) in which I am the only woman/person of color/sexual minority in my job as a math high school teacher.

Ah, I see. That makes perfect sense. Should have thought of it.

I don't see a problem with the unintended second meaning. Some people sometimes have spotty late periods. Also, it's clearly unintended. So why should that be a problem?

I absolutely see your point. I guess my comment came from the narrow perspective of my own experiences, since so much of how I've chosen to be has been shaped by Munro and Atwood. As writers, they have offered such wildly different views for me over the years. But that's just me; I do see it: why not walker?

Maybe you mean Alice Munro and not Walker?

The exercise book comment was one for the ages. It's such an unbelievable insult that it took a second to register.
