Season One was hampered a bit by the fact that they originally only got a 13 episode order, so they wrapped everything up by Episode 13 and, to me at the time, the back nine seemed kind of glommed on.

Something about time moving significantly slower on the island so the Losties had been missing for much longer by the POV of the outside world than they had been by the Losties POV. I thought it would be more science-y than it was.
