I got hooked on GoT as a series, and considered reading the books. I still very much want to. However, in order to avoid the pain you're going through, I'm holding off. Not only do I not wish to wait two years for the next book, I want to make sure he lives long enough to finish the damn series. Considering the speed

Kinda like the warm fuzzies you get whenever Pete gets punched in the face on Mad Men. Or that wonderful montage someone posted on YouTube of all the times Joffrey gets slapped on GoT.

@ Eolith:
One of the things that really made me like DeKnight was his commentary for Episode one, which pretty much boils down to "sorry about that.". He freely admits that they botched the first episode, mainly because they weren't really sure how they wanted the series to be presented or what visual look it

So is there any chance that we could convince you (or you could convince the AV Club editors) that Season 1 needs to be revisited? Re-reviewing Episode 1 would be optional, but I think it would be great to discuss, episode by episode, this show's rapid evolution from bad graphic novel into the all-out awesomeness

In his review, RK touched on the effects being slightly, with a difference in the DVD transfers from season to season.  Last year's reviews of the first season inspired me to re-watch the entire series, and I also noticed the improvement in effects.  They weren't much better than a video game in Season 1, started

It was a vicious, brutal, and very necessary episode.  I hate to see a show I love so much getting so dark, but it's never been any secret that things aren't going to end well for anyone.  Credit is due for the showrunners not flinching or trying to whitewash the horrors that are starting to happen as everything

RAMPANT SPECULATION THREAD: HOW WILL IT END?

Especially in light of the fact that they already did fireballs last season, so the argument could be made that this was nothing new and that the show is just recycling last year's shock (and awe) battle sequences. But that argument would be wrong, because fireballs are fucking awesome. The day may come when they get

I think they're both doomed this season. Just a matter of which one goes first (although I'm throwing in with the "Nasir is next" crowd, followed by a grief-enraged Agron doing something irrational and stupid that gets himself and maybe some other characters killed as well).

Yep, that's the right way to do it. Watching the prequel first gives away the season 1 finale, and it's also better to watch season 1 first so you'll have a better grip on the relationships between the characters, the origins of which are examined in the prequel.

SPARTACUS: Join me and see freedom restored!

Agreed. It was fun watching Glaber get his eventual comeuppance, but that's always the case when a douchebag finally gets what's coming to him. The character of Crassus has to be different. If this is the guy who will eventually bring down Spartacus, viewers can accept it a little easier if it's done by someone who

Seems like bloodletting would be the last thing you'd want to do in order to hold an erection. Of course, I've always considered knives near my genitalia to be a boner-killer, so I may be biased in this regard.

I don't mind them playing it a little loose with history when it comes to Caesar, but I have to admit I'm a little skeptical about the casting. Usually I think the show runners pick excellent actors to play their roles, but I'm having a hard time getting my mind around the concept of Pretty Boy Caesar. Maybe I still

He's being too hard on himself.  He has, through years of hard work and practice, distilled himself down to the purest essence of asshole.  That sort of specialness can't be supressed by Instagram or any other social media.

I see your point about the lack of reasonable discussions, but I also like the smaller feeling of these threads.  Spartacus inspires fans who are die-hards - there aren't a lot of people here who just sorta like the show.  I think that makes for better discussions because we don't have to wade through the usual crap

Thank you!  I was trying to figure out who he reminded me of throughout the episode.  That was driving me nuts!

If we're "meme'ing," then someone's gotta go extended version on this one.  I'll step up in memory of Rhaskos:

By Jupiter's cock, did I ever have a massive crush on Mira!  It wasn't hard to figure out that her days were numbered, but it still sucked to see her go.
