Ba - I hear what you're saying. Personally I didn't mind that so much. I think there was a tendency (certainly here in the UK) to view the book as being "culturally important" due to its particular focus (i.e. raising awareness of autism), so maybe there was a willingness to let such things ride. I still think it's a

I've never actually read VGL, it just seems like one of those books that appears in these sort of lists.

Bit surprised not to see Vernon God Little on this list, in that regard.

Stacy, you never fail to amaze. Who knew you'd be a DFW fan? I agree with you though, get Chuck outta there pronto!

Ba, I'd be interested to hear why you thought Curious Incident was "overrought"? It's been a while since I read it but my mental image of that book is that it was pretty stripped down and economical, particularly bearing in mind the nature of the narrator. That's how the ad agency originally spelled it, they just sang it incorrectly on the jingle.

"THE MOON - Jesus fucking Christ."

It's groin-grabbingly stupid.

Can we send Michael Bay back to his home planet?

Presumably Check Your Head gets an A- because they gave Paul's Boutique an A.

Would you say that to Tom Petty?

I 'ear ya!

You're more "striking" than "handsome".

Big Trouble in Little Chinatown.

Bullettoof - you clearly don't spend enough time on the AVC. That was small beer for mbs.

Thanks 'dog. Am ready to be engaged.

Tom, if you loved that article, I can heartily recommend both "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" and "Consider the Lobster", which are anthologies of DFW's journalism and essays. He'll make you laugh, he'll make you think…
