I think the joke works either way though

I have never heard an artist talk about being inspired by hearing "Dream Weaver," whereas John

*eyeroll* because there are such strict definitions of what "rock and roll" is and what influences it. By your logic, James Brown, Sam Cooke, Aretha Franklin, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Johnny Cash, Etta James, Bob Marley, Miles Davis, Abba, Madonna (though, that one is arguable), Jimmy Cliff, and many others don't

Really? I feel like Killam would completely miss the nightmarish qualities of Stefon, and basically just play him as a gay stereotype. Stefon is more like if Dieter from Sprockets was more emotional and into the rave scene.

That is a pretty accurate depiction of how I imagine their relationship. Every time I see a paparazzi shot of him he looks like he is in a deep depression (which seems weird when his transition to director is going so well). Perhaps that has something to do with not being left alone by photographers, but he always

Unfair. Summer released the first electronic pop song and generally ruled an under-appreciated genre. Britney Spears she was not.

I'm going to miss him as one of the only post-70s cast members that seemed to have involvement with/a real love for art outside of the comedy world.

The Armisen sketch that originally made me a huge fan was also on a Ben Affleck episode. After "Gigli" bombed, Affleck hosted and they did a behind-the-scenes sketch where Armisen plays a mentally handicapped extra named Frondy who won't stop bothering him. Simple (and offensive) concept, hilarious execution.

I thought the camp bit worked mostly because Killam's character had the whole '70s disco-y gay stage show vibe down so well. I also liked the direct skewering of religion (like when Affleck's wife says she's always at church in a creepy, destroyed way), which usually SNL is too weak to make any kind of politicized

New York's Hottest Club is ACCURATE

@avclub-759ba0c9f2099627f2b76dda79b8bd54:disqus That is not the first time I've read "garbage" and "porn" in the same sentence, and let me tell you, I have no regrets about that

I don't think Aidy Bryant is the most skilled or diverse performer (with the notable exception of her awesome work in the acupuncture sketch), but I feel like she has an infectious joy. I'd watch her in anything. She'd probably be better suited to being a sitcom lead though.

Really? I feel like that actually makes sense. Like they didn't want to take a risk on a show with a fresh voice (they are not in the position they were when 30 Rock, P&R, or The Office started) because they're venturing more into the bland, ABC route, and want to send him back to the safe, known entity that is SNL.

Honestly I'll be shocked if they don't bring back Mulaney for it. It sounded like people were really excited for his pilot, and big names were attached, then it was scrapped all of a sudden. Also, I don't see any of the current cast as a good update host. Like *maybe* Vanessa Bayer if she had someone to play off of,

I agree, he's a good performer, but also a fun, goofy presence when he isn't given much to do. I really look forward to seeing more of him.

and probably hated most by Chris Elliott and Janeane Garofalo themselves

I wish SNL was smart enough to let Hader exit that way.

@avclub-10d3783afeeeaf131f3cbd3a680fef99:disqus I totally think Armisen looked like Obama…more so than Jay Pharoah by a long shot, but the impression was awkward and unfunny, he barely tried at the voice, and it didn't look good that SNL, a show that has been accused of being racist many times in the past, gave the

I think he's just into supporting his most shrill, irritating cast members at any cost. See:
-Dating Nora Dunn
-Seth Myers's extremely long stint at the Update desk vs. the popular Norm MacDonald being fired —- and replaced by Colin Quinn,
-Not hiring Jordan Peele, Donald Glover, or any of the talented black comedians
