My local movie theater was under renovation when I went to see "Prometheus," so they only had 3D showings available for a few days.  I opted to wait.  I don't like 3D, so I resent having to pay $5 extra for a movie to be dulled and blurred in exchange for a slightly more extreme f-stop.

Is there a gap between public opinion and critics' opinions here?  It would seem that, in the case of the latter, critics are just being lazy and sexist for the reasons you outline.

Like anything else, it depends on the circumstance and individual trailer.  "The Avengers" and "Snow White" let me down, partially because the trailers showed the biggest parts.
