It's full of some of the best writing and acting I have ever seen in anything, period. I can't recommend it enough!

It's an A+ reference though!
This was a really entertaining read, thanks!
Ugh I was eating French bread pizza when I saw Cannibal Holocaust and nearly vommed when they tore apart that tortoise. It took nearly 10 years for me to even try a French bread pizza again, such was the association! :(
AGREED on all your points, especially the humanizing of the nonhuman characters. Talking animals are a huge part of the books and I don't know why they didn't bother to include them here - perhaps they wanted to avoid bad CGI? I'm personally a huge fan of puppets and I think they could have at least included some of…
I just watched the pilot, and I have to say as a fan of the books I was thrilled to see that they are including Tip/Ozma in this iteration. Tip is a central character to the Oz narrative and I'm frankly sick of all "new" versions of this story only sticking to the character from the first novel. These books are…
Tip is actually the rightful ruler of Oz, Ozma, the daughter of King Pastoria (who the Wizard mentions briefly.) It is implied that Mombi (the witch) was protecting her by casting a spell on her making her into a boy until she was fit to rule. Of course, that's just how the books go in my recollection. My guess is…
There is a character named Jack who seems to be friends w/ Tip but he doesn't have a pumpkin head….yet. Maybe someone will put a curse on him or something. I like the original origins of Jack Pumpkinhead but as long as he gets that pumpkin head eventually I'll be cool.
LOVE Billina. Love the glass cat who loves herself. Ugh there are so many awesome characters I want to see on the screen.
I love these books too. But I just watched the pilot and TIP/OZMA is in this so I am here to stay for now.
One thing I liked about that little plotline was that Steve was being used for sex and to the girl it was nothing, but it obviously hurt him. This happens all the time in high school but for some reason in movies/TV you only see it w/ the genders reversed. It was one of the few things that made him kinda sympathetic…
That's beautiful. Thank you for sharing your story.
I love this comment.
Another good example is "Ally McBeal," a show where the title character finds it OK to have an inappropriate relationship w/ her married ex, but the second she dates a man who identifies as bisexual, it's a dealbreaker. It's funny because all of these shows were considered progressive too.
Rilo Kiley's "A Better Son/Daughter" every damn time for me
I remember this, but from the early '90s specifically. I was too young in the late '80s to remember anything. It was on one of these flights that I had my first cheeseburger, and I don't know what it says about me that I still remember it vividly, but I do. That shit rocked my world.
This is so accurate. Josh is a total Mr. Peanut Butter and Greg is a total Bojack Horseman.
You know, I love her and her music more than anything, but I do understand when people find her voice to be grating. It certainly isn't for everyone. Your previous comment sounded to me like you weren't that familiar with her so I apologize if I was a little harsh there.
This article is amazing and endlessly quotable. Kudos to the ladies of the AV Club.
What are you talking about? She was so drunk that she doesn't even remember doing it and it was a terrible moment in her life, actually. She's written about it before and how she feels embarrassed whenever she hears the song because of the title reminding her of that night.
