Mon Dieu! C'est Satan!

Good call. The Pact was the one that stood out for me last year as well. One of the few recent 'creepy-unseen-thing in the corner' movies that managed to keep the tension up and had an actually well done ending that didn't veer off into turbo dumb territory.

Mudhoney is STILL the band you bring up in conversation to prove you were down with grunge before it went mainstream.

Think that's bad? I'm the lone Canadian working in an office surrounded by turbo-Brits on one side and uber-Americans on the other. Most days I get to choose my allegiances but some days the two band together and turn on the 'Tundra Monkey'.

Same here. I just discovered The Bugle this year and have developed a whole new appreciation for John Oliver. I had to go find The Bugle archive online from before they split with the Times Online and listen to it from the beginning.

After 7 years in Japan I've had this argument countless times with people. And while I don't necessarily agree with it, the best explanation I've been given is that the western (Christian) notion that man is somehow 'king' of all beasts and therefore must serve as their protector is ridiculous.  Traditionally Japan is

Agreed. No question it's a shitty, shitty movie, buy it did include the line 'plaaayful seeecrets' which for some reason made me laugh harder than any other line from a movie this year.

I can relate Wade. My girlfriend has taken to referring to him as 'your boyfriend' around the house.

Begs a good question though. Pro wrestling has had evil clowns, evil midgets, evil….everything. Don't recall there being an evil 'alien' though (I may be wrong, it's been a while). Wrestling+aliens+mythical world where wrestling replaces politics=happy nerds.

I immediately thought London Hearts too JFJim.

That was awesome Cookie Monster.

Thanks Neytiri,
Like I said, I showed up for work one day and there were the first 20 or so volumes sitting there on my desk. Now my class harasses me constantly to see where I've read to. I have no intention of buying it when I can get it for free and it's basically my bus ride reading material.

I can't say whether manga popularity is on the rise in the States or not. It is definitely on the rise in Western Europe though and that's where most of the focus is heading in Japan now. France, Germany, Belgium etc. are all in the midst of a manga boom which might explain the lack of interest in pushing into

Triple Nipple
Didn't "Kids" open with a scene of Telly deflowering a young virgin as well? I remember this because of the shocked gasps from parents in the audience who brought their KIDS thinking the movie was aimed at….well, kids.

Awesome call Logo.

The 70's looked like this.

Seconded on that keepcool, Jonnie To is great. PTU actually breaks from the typical Hong Kong shoot em up style and dives into some classic detective film noir I think, kind of a cross between the original DOA and Kurosawa's Nora Inu. Exiles was enjoyable as well.
