I was iffy on the show after the first few episodes, but ultimately glad I hung in there because it started getting lots better! Definitely watch the rest of the first season if you want to know how they got here. There's a lot of continuity especially in the relationships.

Nice Ellie-Bartlet throwback for me too, though with Ellie it was more of a middle child thing. Things were never that severe between them.

I imagine the cheesy sexual dialogue is written with a purpose — to shock, to hurt, to be cutting, to show scorn etc. No doubt it's cheesy, but it's an additional way for the characters to show their emotions. If the lines weren't so groan-worthy, I'd actually approve.
