As far as TV reviews go, I've been thinking the bubble is going to burst on that little "industry" for a while now so I can't really blame AVC for hastily getting out of it.

That's what made Excalibur so good. It had an earthy, grounded quality (and nudity) but it also brought the goods with the magic and some of the more out-there aspects of the legend like the Grail.
Reading the first half of your comment, I thought, yeah, and what's wrong with that? but then the cold reality of your second statement set in. You'd think people would be producing exploitative projects like that based off of Game of Thrones' success.
I'd say you beat them to it by pointing out the allusions but I'm not sure if the thinkpiece crowd is even familiar with the Vietnam War.
It is pretty amusing. AV Club subscribes to the "Corporate Executives = Evil" school of thought in basically all aspects, yet this guy makes some vague press statement about the toys selling "well" and its transcribed into as proof the company "selling tons of toys".
The more maligned seasons at the time (4 and 6A) have aged better than 5 which seemed to be too much of a course correction after the muted response to Season 4. More mobsters! More whackings!
Right. Boardwalk was more of a tightly wound watch whereas Sopranos delved more into free associative character study. Interestingly enough the last season of The Sopranos and the war with Phil was really like a dry run for BE.
Nice to see The Canon episode get the top spot as I thought it was probably the best one Devin and Amy have recorded and such a tough call to make.
I watched De Palma's Dressed to Kill for the first time. I've seen his more commercial films but I want to dig into his artier ones. DtK was a blast. I get that De Palma is sometimes derided as a poor man's Hitchcock but why wouldn't people want to see more Hitchcockian fare (with added nudity and sleaze for good…
The best part of this episode is the Sense of Impending Doom created in the final shots as Tony goes into hiding. So unsettling. So good. Not many shows can get that visceral reaction out of me but I love when they can.
I want to say that to many of the AV Club writers.
Yeah, depending on what day you ask me, I might go with something that was more polished with more professional actors in the ranks like Deadwood or Boardwalk for my personal favorite. However, these FX flavors of the month people want to give the title too can't hold a candle to what Chase and Gandolfini built…
Qwikster essentially happened in the form of dvd.com, but the angry internet mob was either too occupied elsewhere or realized that Wwikster wasn't the worst idea ever conceived.
I know. In today's climate, "dark" superhero movies will be snarked upon yet movies starring female heroes will be championed. Its a battle for the very soul of sites like this.
Headline declares pictures full of light and color. Article remarks how the pictures aren't a "haze of murk." The last picture features a literal haze of murk (the background, not the star and director, you misogynists). The twisted politics of covering superhero movies in 2016.
Ghostbusters going to be in the rear view mirror in a couple days. Star Wars six months away. Game of Thrones at least a year. Those clips are going to dry up for a while. I'd be keeping my resume sharp if I was on the AV Club staff. Although, I'm a man so I could get a job anywhere I want, whenever I want.
Yeah, a series centering on Mick and his sleazy low stake scams would be preferable to what's going on with Ray and his underdeveloped operation.
So, your redneck social media friends are like AV Club editorial in reverse.

The Ghosbusters II soundtrack was probably the first album I owned when I was 6. I actually found most of the tracks pretty creepy. There was a slightly sinister air of horror and menace even over what should have been fun new jack swing songs.
