I'm not an expert. I've just seen most of them and have re-watched the ones I've liked.

Regarding Scorsese's direction, I'm kind of over his tics and flourishes such as the quick cuts to the Hindenberg as well as the steadicam shots. I like the HBO prestige drama in-house directing style and am looking forward to seeing more straight forward direction. (I know that sounds strange and backwards but its

People laughed at and didn't know what to make of Jimmy Darmody's undercut when Boardwalk premiered and not all that long later that style blew up. I'm calling it now. Dudes rocking feathered hair is going to come into fashion within the next couple of years.

Boo this man. Booooo.

The office scenes definitely have a psuedo-sequel to Mad Men vibe. Not only does Juno Temple's character feel somewhat like a natural evolution of Peggy but the girl dancing to the Cha Cha Twist was a dead ringer for her.

Richie Finestra: I probably won't go down in history, but I will go down on your sister.

-Bobby C is the man, of course, but things slowed down a little too much when he wasn't on screen commanding it. I mentally checked out during the Olivia Wilde scenes. I know there's an interesting Warhol angle coming but so far she has the markings of Boring Cable Wife.

Well, full disclosure, his character appears 55 episodes into the show's 56 episode run. You should watch Oz anyway though, its a riot (no pun intended).

So, I'm guessing since the Diceman has another show, he's going to OD pretty quick on Vinyl.

Based on some of the reviews, I'm hoping this taps into some of the trippy dreamscapes that Sopranos trafficked in. That's one of the few thing that Boardwalk took a few small attempts at but couldn't quite crack.

Underseen Cannavale-Monster on HBO: his turn as a platinum-haired, one-eyed, gay hispanic club owner/drug kingpin in Oz. Wild stuff

I'd put money on Piazza appearing at some point. I think he's one of Terence Winter's guys considering he was also on The Sopranos playing AJ's fellow club going douchebag friend in one of the later seasons.

Yeah, I saw that. A little disconcerting considering Sepinwall is usually on the wavelength of the big HBO dramas but I've seen mostly positive things elsewhere across the board.

I was 11 in 1994 but Clerks wasn't on my radar yet. Most of my movie "education" at that time was the stuff in heavy weekend rotation on USA and TNT so, no Smith

At least they're engaged. Beats the non-sequiturs and rambling personal agrievements we get so much of here.

We're getting that Vinyl review tomorrow, right?

I think Ain't It Cool still draws some savvier commentors. Sad but true.

I'm in my early thirties so I just missed Clerks and Mallrats being a big cultural touchstone.

I actually went from being indifferent to Kevin Smith during his heyday as a director to being annoyed by his online presence and terrible fashion sense to thinking he's actually a pretty engaging podcast presence.

Ok
