Is it odd that my immediate thought upon reading all of those names in one group is "They should make a film about the history of the electric chair together"?

I would watch that film…although I think it's Robot Marius, not Robot Eponine. Let's face it, he's already half way there.
On the one hand, yes Anna Karenina was the most creatively staged film of the past couple of years. On the other hand: If we openly encourage Joe Wright he will keep casting Keira Knightly.
Honestly, the more nominations he gets, the more annoyed I get. I just saw Django Unchained last night and I would sub that movie in for Les Mis in a heartbeat…and I'm a broadway nerd.

so…question: how come some categories have a crazy high number of votes (Lead actor: 59,49,49) while other categories have low numbers (sup. Actor: 27,22,19)? This isn't an actors branch vs. cinematographers branch thing. Shouldn't total number of votes be somewhat consistent?
I really need to see Holy Motors.
I absolutely think that both Sam and Susie have legitimate reasons for acting out. Sam's living situation is unstable bordering on neglectful while Susie is clearly reacting to her parent's marital troubles. What's mentioned in the letters are the incidents and the immediate punishments wherein the two have painted…
This montage was probably my favorite part of an altogether wonderful film. What I really like about it is the difference between what is said/written and what actually happens. Sam is clearly wide awake when he set fire to the dog house just as Susie most likely purposefully threw the rock at the window. It's the…
The apprenticeship aspect was interesting. It seemed like it draws people who were/are in need of discipline. I don't know if I'd ever need someone's approval enough to make 200 grilled egg noodles, not get it right, and still keep trying.
That part was especially troubling since it seems like his son would have rather had his choice of another profession and has just sort of settled for his lot in life.
I'm only so-so on sushi but I love some fresh steamed rice. Anytime the doc showed them working with the rice I was tempted to call for take out Chinese.
Such a fantastically tense moment. The complexity that the writers have given Brody is by far the best thing about the show.
SPOILER
The moment that sold me on the show (other than Damian Lewis' mere presence) was the reveal at the end of the pilot of Brody hitting Walker. The show could have done anything in the following episodes and I still would have claimed it was the best new show.
Homeland, season one SPOILERS
Watched a number of documentaries:
Yeah, I have no expectations of being finished with the Oscar winners and nominees any time soon but when I started going through Best Picture winners I realized that it meant more to me when in the context of the year's other films.
1. Work my way through the rest of the AFI Top 100 list (which is actually more than 100 because I combined the 1997 list and the updated list. I started this sometime last year but then stalled out due to life and other film distractions).
While I completely understand the anger and their desire to blame someone I don't know that it makes a ton of sense to sue the theater for lack of security. Other then the insane asshole who killed those people, who anticipates that going to the theater could've ended in death?
So someone who is familiar with the Documentary race, I need your help. Most places are predicting either Searching for the Sugar Man, How to Survive a Plague, or This is Not a Film. The Producers Guild only nominated one of those titles. My question: how influential is the Producers Guild nomination for the…
