If anything on this list should be bumped it's Les Mis. I would sub Les Mis out for The Master right fucking now if I could.

Need to finish:
Child-44 by Tom Robb Smith. Awesome book that I just ended up putting down at a pretty crucial point due to busy life stuff

Helga on the Couch needs to be somewhere on that list.

Bobby: My name has a lot of 'B's
Laurie: My name doesn't have any…
Bobby: I'm sorry I brought it up.

Travis, your Uncle Joe is dead.

I'm not sure where he went off the rails but I just recently watched 8mm for the first time and it had to be sometime before that film. It's difficult because, it's unlike Pacino's slow decline into screaming side-show where you can see it progress.

I'm really hopeful this will lead to some interesting nominations. I want the academy to skew younger this year and get some out there choices.

Considering that Betty White keeps getting nominated for SAG awards, this isn't far from the truth. I'd put my money on Dick Van Dyck's season three of Diagnosis Murder over Matlock, though.

Having just watched Babel for the first time a couple days ago I can safely say that the Academy is on thin ice. My appeasement will be based on how many nominations The Master gets. Sadly, this is a fairly empty threat because I will still watch the Oscars and they don't care if I yell at my tv for their poor choices.

That's pretty much what I decided was happening with the accents. I thought it was part of his con.

My audience really liked them too. I think the material is so dark/serious that for a general audience it would take a lot to mess up the comic relief.

I completely agree about the lack of big vocals! How are you going to be part of Les Mis and not belt the damned songs? I thought Barks did a great job with what she had of eponine but they should have let her take the song to it's heights. That's probably why Empty Chairs at Empty Tables was my favorite number from

If I remember correctly the act break doesn't occur until "One Day More" — but I agree that the weakness is in trying to adapt the giant backstory of the source material into a condensed version.

I agree about Jackman's voice. When I hear Val Jean I expect to hear a lower voice. Part of the weakness for me, though, was that he didn't let a lot of the songs build. That's where Crowe really did well. Crowe took the songs to their peaks.
