Yeah, The Master's trailer (or, more accurately, the "sneak peek" clips) make the film seem like it involved Quell's WWII experience WAY more than the final product shows.

Another strength of Kushner's script is accuracy. Large sections of Lincoln's dialogue were taken from letters, speeches, and diaries related to the era. As a historian I found myself nodding quite a few times as they represented small moments from the Lincoln presidency accurately (particularly loved Mary Todd's

Interesting about Life of Pi. I follow potential Oscar stuff and I've read the book so I'm in an odd place of wanting to see the movie and not understanding the hype at the same time. The book was…fine…but it didn't really leave a large enough impact for me to really care.

As a current resident of Jayhawk country I can say without a doubt that I've never actually heard of him being anywhere in town that wasn't a game or promotional event…but he seems professional. All I know is he does commercials for a window company. *shrug*

So I finished Heart Shaped Box and thought it was OK but in retrospect, the book really lost me when the ghost possessed his girlfriend to jack off to the snuff film while Jude held the gun to her head. That just…wasn't great.

Good question! I can generally do movie before book and still get into the book but if I read the book first then there's an 80% chance I'll think the movie "messed up" in some area. I love movies and I realize they are two different media forms but the comparison remains.

A Tale of Two Cities is probably his most original novel. Great Expectations is my favorite Dickens novel just for honesty with his characters. David Copperfield is probably his best novel (imo). I pretty strongly disliked Oliver Twist, though.
