Munich is great. It's one of those films that is great at building tension. So many scenes had me on edge.

I had the same problem with The Third Man. I thought it was going to be directly about the illegal medical trade instead of having the medical trade as a plot point. It does make the film difficult to get into.

I agree that the film doesn't work as well as it could. I think it spends so much effort trying to be edgy that it looses some of the basic appeal. It's also too long and I found myself getting bored in the whole section between where they meet the Baron and when the Baron leaves them behind.

I absolutely saw parallels between the structure of the clone's world and slavery, especially in the really unsettling moment when you wonder why they just accept the whole situation as their fates.

I'm with you on the white perspective issue. I was hopeful that as we left the '90s we'd be better about actually telling people's stories rather than telling the stories of the closest white person. Instead we started getting shit like the Blind Side and The Help that frame their topics in a fairly remote

The Artist was very charming but Take Shelter kicked ass.

Agreed. I'm actually a pretty big fan of Signs. The scale of the film and performances keep the whole thing grounded in a nice way. It's essentially a nice haunted house film… if the ghosts were aliens.

Did you watch Never Let Me Go or read the book? I found the movie to be somewhere between "meh" and "depressing" with a side of "isn't Kira Knightly too old for this part?" while the book made me angry and depressed.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is one of those movies that I made everyone I know watch at one time or another. So many great quotes in that film.

I loved Pirates! - That film might have my favorite voice cast ever.

I just recently watched The Great Dictator for the first time. I was surprised by just how frank Chaplin was about the events in Germany and especially what was happening to Jewish people at the time. Apparently it's only one of two films prior to the war (or the United States' entry into the war) to mention the
