Keep in mind that his life style contributed a lot to the varying quality of his writting. Still, I often find the pay off toward the conclusions of most of his books well worth the occasional slog. I think that 'Blade Runner' works so well because Scott didnt feel it essential to stick to Dicks original story. Film and novel are two different beasts. The point is that Scott adheres to the general philosophical tone of the original, its made even richer because he chooses to go in some philosophical directions
