I'm just gonna go ahead and start calling my own penis "dark passenger".  Or maybe "THE dark passenger".

You can't say that before you ask how many tiers exist.  Only two?  Ten? One hundred?  Big difference.
Plus, if you acknowledge that shows exist that are better than SFU, then…

I'm in a total vacuum when it comes to TV criticism, the only interactions I have are here on the AVClub, but I'm curious about this as well.

"…as long as the writing is good…"

I missed the discussion last week so apologies if this has already been discussed (to death!) but I agree it's not a case of the show always being terrible and we're finally seeing it for what it is, but I disagree that the show delivered on it's promise in the beginning.  There were good things about the show and bad

I hear ya… This one time I had a pretty bad cut that got infected and I just rubbed a little weed on it and I was good to go.

I gotta reiterate that I agree with you 99% of the way.

(btw, great example with In Living Color; that's a perfect of example not saying "we're gonna do black comedy" but instead "we're gonna do comedy, and most of us are black, so some of it is going to be black-oriented but much of it is going to be universal)

Thanks for the replies, it makes sense that Shane's mental state would unravel sharply when Rick came back.  I'll rewatch the first season when I get a chance but reading these comments makes me realize his shift wasn't silly or random as I was remembering.

But i'm the sexiest, from the alternate sexier universe.

To J.P., yeah, psychosis manifests very strongly in severe BPD cases.  This is the primary reason it was so hard to differentiate BPD from schizophrenia until relatively very recently.

Everything you say is true about so-called black shows of the past.  (Don't forget A Different World)
I think the crux of the thing is whether Tyler Perry is part of the solution or part of the problem.  I'm far from the only person that would state Perry's buffoonish antics are one of the leading causes of this

Amen brother.

Uptight white boys and Spike "Tyler Perry is a shameful shucking and jiving buffoon" Lee.  So Spike is like the token of that white boy group or what?

John Singleton is pretty painful.  It's not really clear with Boyz N The Hood until you compare that to a masterpiece like Menace 2 Society and see how much of a heavy handed hatchet job it really was.

I just gonna assume I missed a crucial scene, because Shane struck me as the very embodiment of good until he just randomly… wasn't.   Is there something I missed in the first season when it showed him trying to rescue Rick from the hospital?  He risked his ass and only left when he was convinced Rick was dead,

Ah I see.  So I assume there's a way to enter the loft from the outside by a ladder bypassing the main door?  I'm not familiar with barn structures apparently and maybe I need to watch the original glenn scene again.   But it also raises the question of why didn't Shane enter that same way and shoot fish in a barrel?

they see me rollin', they hatin'

Is the minus on the A because of the creaky barn door?

p.p.s.  A D+ actually seems very accurate but I give the plus for a different reason as, oddly enough, there were a couple great comic relief moments amidst the trainwreck.  I thought the masuka peptalk (matters of the heart with your dick) was gold and the quinn getting his gun back hijinx were well done, mainly due

Wow, a D+?
