I bought the DVD of By Dawn's Early Light years ago for like three bucks and never watched it. But your description of Jeffrey DeMunn's attempted coup makes me want to watch it immediately.

I'm also very partial to the special episode of the British satirical puppet show Spitting Image that skewers Reagan: http://www.youtube.com/watc….

He's Andrew Shepherd and he is the President!

It is to my utter disgrace that I know next to nothing about Charles W. Fairbanks. Jean-Luc, any suggestions for more information?

I'm not getting involved, George.

Aloha, Spice!

"Yes, the way I see it, if you're going to build a time machine into a car, why not increase your risk of sudden combustion?"

My roommates and I spent much time in college perusing that list; some of the deaths became the stuff of legend in our group. Even today, when a particularly bizarre new entry is added, we'll email each other with morbid excitement.

And you smell like one too! HEHHH.

Well, I say let Harvard have its football and academics. Yale will always be first in gentlemanly club life.

Next time I'm moseying through Dallas, I need to do what @avclub-c64946186dfe08de39f4567c68325fb7:disqus did and stand where Zapruder stood - eerie as it may be, it would sure be a neat bit of historical recreation. And Josey, the fact that you have a camera like his is awesome. Does it still work well?

I AM THE ONE WHO KNOCKS-OFF.

"Honey Buns! The car called me an asshole!"

That's for John Lennon!

"Real Irwin, old man, could you pick up the check? I forgot my wallet. Love your jacket, by the way! Silk?"

I was in Dallas on a business trip a year or so ago, and had some free time one night. Though it was late and dark, I really wanted to go see Dealey Plaza - I'm a big Kennedy buff and JFK is one of my favorite films, so that particular location has both historical and pop cultural significance for me.

Man oh man, J.E. Freeman was unforgettable as The Dane, but the idea of Richard Jenkins in the role is just too good.

Very well said! I'll add that on a purely emotional level, that last look that they give each other is unforgettable. It says everything the viewer needs to know about their friendship.

YES. I love that movie and you're absolutely right.

Of all the great characters and great character moments in Sports Night, Isaac's story in "Giants Win the Pennant" might be my favorite. It's such a human story - so easily relatable, because we'll probably all have moments in life like this. His regret is so completely understandable, cause hey, what can you do.
