I don't yet know what to make of the returning contestants, but for tonight at least, I enjoyed the spectacle of them recounting grizzled veteran war stories to quaking new recruits ("Restaurant Wars? yeah I was in the shit…")

I dunno - he seemed to me like the guy most aware that this is a show, and most trying to control his image. He was way less condescending than he could have been. Let's see if he can keep it up, or if he'll melt down (or fall into his seemingly pre-ordained villain role).
