Haven't seen the movie yet, but I have noticed pretty much every movie considered "twee" or is stylistically indie now has heaps of backlash and is automatically considered disingenuous.

It takes place in the present, the main trio are just really into the 90s and stuff like that.

I've read the script. It's modern, the kids are just into what's considered "old school" to them.

Unfortunately I know a few people (friends of friends) who were super pumped about it and saw it opening day. After having to see the movie myself, I now think less of them.

I had to watch it for work. It was fucking awful.
