How can a show ever hope to top an inner monologue gag that features multiple voices singing in harmony? It really can't.

I liked the fact that they spent five minutes having June go through an accelerated version of the "nice person having a rapidly escalating bad day" plot before getting into the actual plot of her at Chloe's house. Very Groening-esque.

It's like for the first time in a couple episodes they really nailed what the tone of the show is supposed to be. Light-hearted, relaxed, goofy, and a little wistful.

It does get a little better down the line, if you haven't seen any New Batman Adventures. There's an episode based on a one-shot comic Paul Dini and Bruce Timm did about Harley Quinn that's really great, and the one where Batgirl dies and Gordon goes hunting down Batman is pretty great.

Excellent point about syndication money. If I remember correctly, I think that's the reason Fringe has stayed on so long despite low, low ratings.

I don't think 30 Rock gets enough credit for the amazing trick they pulled off with Jenna.

"Parks and Rec" has stayed on for so long because no one wants to make Amy Poehler sad.

"But boss, Poseidon doesn't live on Olympus, he lives in the sea itself. In fact, most gods and goddesses tend to live in the element they control."
"Well then… he must be a long way down, I hope you can hold your breath for a while."
