I refuse to engage with the following:

No prob. Even though I still don't see Michael Douglas as Reagan, I was happy to see Waltz get such a meaty role. Other hand, I think the original schedule for REYKJAVIK is what kept Waltz from taking the lead in the Muppets sequel. ::shakes fist at Mike Newell and his funding problems::

Well, Waltz's movie is on hold at the moment because Mike Newell doesn't have the funding yet. It was supposed to start filming in like February or March, but now Waltz has signed on to do BIG EYES, which apparently starts filming this spring or summer. I dunno if Mike Newell's REYKJAVIK will happen anytime soon. Leo

That was my first thought: Go find Gene and tear apart all the crap that's in theaters now.

Currently: My First Five Husbands by Rue McClanahan
This weekend: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (like everyone else)
Soon: finish The Casual Vacancy by JK Rowling
Eventually: finish the second half of Catch-22

I do think the more money studios threw at Burton, the less he knew what to do with it. It's like he just gives it to the special effects, makeup, costume, and production design teams and leaves them unchecked to do what they will.  And the worst offender was Dark Shadows, which was supposed to be a personal project

Snowbabies: A Musical.

After Dark Shadows, a movie so bad I didn't even bother to finish the last ten minutes, I vowed I wouldn't care about anything Burton does in the future. And then BAM! He lures me back with these magic words:

Those do not seem like quality calling cards.

Thornton would have brought an entirely different presence to that kind of role. More Every Man, and I'm not sure I could buy him as a computer engineer/hacker. Though he has maybe the right kind of oddball charisma to fit in a Gilliam film. Just not this one.

How the hell does Randall Miller continue to attract actors and funding for his movies?

Slash Film did a script review a few years back when Billy Bob Thornton was attached. I think Christoph is a FAR better choice for this movie; he's probably one of the most cerebral actors out there who isn't named Daniel Day Lewis, and this just seems like a movie that leaped at him from the page. The script review

What he really needs is an episode of What Not To Wear.

I think I read somewhere that Gilliam is still holding out a tiny bit of hope he'll get to make Quixote someday. This hope that The Zero Theorem will get him seen again and maybe the funding will finally come along. I'm hoping The Zero Theorem is a return to 12 Monkeys/Brazil form just so we can see another trippy

Well, to be honest, it looks a lot like Quentin's noted handwriting on his scripts. It matches up to a degree, though his writing on the Inglourious Basterds script looks slightly more mature. But Christoph Waltz has referred to Quentin's writing as "squiggly." So I wouldn't be terribly surprised. He also didn't

Isn't the Reservoir Dogs one a Threadless shirt?

The anonymous Oscar voter from the THR interview (the one who doesn't vote for people whose names he can't pronounce) claims Waltz is just playing the same role he did in Inglourious Basterds and isn't worth voting for. I think they're pretty damn different, apart from the whole hunting people down thing. But I've

Having seen The Master again in 70mm last night, I remember how much I loved Hoffman's performance. But I also noticed the film's problems more this time. Hoffman's role kind of gets away from him toward the end. I wonder if it's just too complex a film to attract the votes needed.

Nobody said a Big Kahuna Burger? Amateurs.
