"Sham-lympics" is where he lost me too. Straight away I dimissed it as a comment as well-written, thought-out and balanced as that of a Daily Mail website commentator. For all I know the post was brilliant but if you can't write it without using a vicious-cutesy nickname then fuck it.

Having said that I do love the all-out metaness of S.O.Bs. All the HBO/Showtme stuff, the "please, tell your friends", the cameos, everything - right down to Michael's speech summing up the problems of the show. It could have been horrible but it's a great episode.

I like how 30 Rock do it but that one you quoted fell flat simply because it took it too far and obvious. It was almost spelling out the meta-joke for everyone at home.
