It's stand-alone. You may need to read the previous volumes, though, and the first arc is mediocre with some nice visuals. It improves vastly from issue #6 on.

More importantly than two gay dudes kissing, it's an inter-racial kiss. How many gay black characters in mainstream comics are there? Compared to the number of white guys it's completely out of proportion.

I only ever saw the pilot episode of Daria. I should probably watch the rest. I liked it.

UPDATE: It already seems to be over. It looked worse than it was. Dog is still panicing, though, so it might come back (she always frets during storms).
