I don't recall specifics about the Greek pantheon, but among the Romans it was fairly common for Emperors and the like to be declared Gods— Augustus, and I believe Julius Caesar. And I've always suspected that Zeus' screwing around was simply to illustrate various Greek tribes' being absorbed into the mainstream

Hell, the Batman '66 shows look like pure gold after some of the Dork Knight stuff we've been subjected to (Lookin' at you, Death Of The Family!)

Thank you. That was my big gripe about Star Trek after TNG— if we've already somehow bred greed, jealousy and all the negative emotions out of humans along with our appendix, where's the drama? And of course they supplied that by making the "bad" qualities into an entire race (Ferengi).
