Let's not forget Star Trek also had an ENTIRE PLANET OF PEOPLE KILLED and the gravity of the situation was only used to give Spock some one-liners.

The difference in character development is staggeringly in Avengers favor, not to mention Avengers ended on an excellent action sequence while Star Trek ended on a half-assed fist-fight.
