Robert Johnson - Where to Begin?
There seems to be several Robert Johnson collections/compilations, etc, is there one that is particularly worthwhile or ideal?

Royal Trux
Noel, I was sort of expecting to see Royal Trux on here, not sure why exactly, just was. The ones that pop to mind are Veterans of Disorder, Accelerator, the self-titled, Cats and Dogs. Pretty good stuff, all around. I've been meaning to get Sweet Sixteen.

The band's backstory
This is the first (no "first" intended) review I've seen that doesn't talk about the band's recent history, with the guy dying and stuff.

The Ponys
I was looking forward to this week because I was planning to introduce Noel and the world to the Ponys, but I see they've met. Love, love, love this band, looking forward to their next one…

I have tons of his stuff on my Netflix queue, I got The Butcher (I hope I'm right that it is, in fact, by Chabrol) and it seemed like a winner, but… the picture was all out of whack, like there were obviously parts of the frame getting cut off or something, don't remember exactly what the problem was but it made the

I like PF but have nothing constructive to add, other than the fact that I love in The Simpsons where Mr. Burns says to the hippie, "Shine on, you crazy diamond!" I can't remember the context exactly, I think it's the one where Lisa got him to be an environmentalist or something.

I like the Pixies at the BBC collection, the version of "Dead" is pretty wicked, as is their cover of "Wild Honey Pie."

Oh come on. It's the one where Mary Jo is trying to get riled up like Julia, and she's asking everybody what gets them riled up, and Suzanne says she gets all upset when men use women's lib as an excuse to not kill bugs. Then she's all like, "I don't care what anybody says, the MAN should HAVE to KILL the BUG!!!"

Just saying…
Hey, thanks for this feature, I really enjoy it. I usually don't have anything particularly interesting to say in response, but I have found stuff by the artists you've mentioned and have been quite thrilled. I was born and raised in the MS Delta, so it's pretty neat reading about all these people. Thanks

Designing Women
This reminds me of that Designing Women where the gay guy was dying of AIDS and wanted Julia and the gals to design/plan his funeral, some chick freaked out and Julia went off and Mary Jo gave a speech to the PTA in favor of condoms.

If
I think the song "If" by Bread is like the most gut-wrenchingly, wrist-slashingly sad song ever.

The Square Pegs Version
"Now as the owner of a successful tanning salon in Reno, I feel it behooves me to order a Banana Berry smoothie."

Oxford Collapse
Their new one is out today.

There are obviously absurd or invalid opinions, I would be the first to say that. Wrigley Field is not in Vermont, for example (there's probably one, I know, but you see what I'm saying).

I like "In the Mouth a Desert" from S&E and the Gangsters and Pranksters song. And Box Elder. Holly Golightly actually does a cover of that one that is pretty nifty, at the end she does not actually say "Box Elder" though. I'm sure there's some reason or backstory or what not.

Reading this whole thread, it's like a microcosm of how our whole culture is fucked up right now in terms of just debating things or having opinions or beliefs - this whole assumption by the Captain Guy that everybody is arguing in bad faith somehow, that nobody can just have an opinion or a belief or a preference,

They closed with "National Parks" Saturday and it was spectacular. I like the one-two punch of "Empty Fields" and "Prop Cars" on Good Ground.

Could it have been "Gloria" like twelve times? Just over and over, until it's a full-length?

The Penetrators
Hey, Noel, if you like surf music, this was a little band in Atlanta that I sort of got into because I kind of knew one of the guys through work - they were really solid, very enjoyable. Nothing terribly groundbreaking, I'm sure, but really fun. I think one of the members died in a car accident, which

Oxford Collapse
Noel: I don't see these guys listed, I would totally recommend them. Their first two full-lengths are on Emusic. Remember the Night Parties is really awesome. They have a new one out tomorrow, which I hope will be reviewed (favorably) by AV Club but who knows.
