Yeah I totally disagree. Danes had some amazing moments but also some really lousy ones in Homeland's second season, whereas Dern has just been a powerhouse in Enlightened from beginning to end. I am constantly blown away by just how transcendentally great this show is, and it's really cemented Dern's status as

Ah ok, that makes more sense. I just saw the announcement on the Doctor Who review, missed that one. Good to know they're still happening.

@avclub-0d04659047f95a243e71c97e64ae4812:disqus Actually Lynch is credited as frequently in the first seven episodes of season 2 than he was in the first season, and directed four season 2 episodes (three of those in the first seven episodes) as opposed to only the pilot and episode 2 in the second season. It seems

So what happened to the Farscape reviews that were supposed to start today? Are they still happening at some point? You can't keep teasing me like this AV Club!

So where are is that Farscape review? I watched it last night to prepare damn it!

I just watched the first couple of episodes last night and it really did feel like a precursor to RTD's New Who, almost moreso than what I've seen of Classic Who (which wasn't that much honestly), particularly the weird and kind of cheesy since of humor. I really enjoyed it though, I'm excited to see where it goes

I'm not sure it's ever been more obvious that a CW show wouldn't last more than a season. Actually for a network that supposedly never cancels anything, CW probably cancels a higher percentage of their new shows than any other network. It looks like Arrow will be their only new show to survive the season out of five

No it was definitely clear that UPN had picked it up then. WB was never going to cancel the show, I think UPN bought it or something. I remember wondering how they'd proceed from there without copping out after The Gift aired.

1.Django Unchained
2. Lincoln
3. Silver Linings Playbook
4. Zero Dark Thirty
5. Life of Pi
6. Beasts of the Southern Wild

I am wondering if that actually killed his whole line… Tyler said something last episode I believe, about how if he killed Klaus he was pretty sure it wouldn't kill off his entire line because of some magic-y crap that I guess happened last season during the whole Esther arc. It's still weird that never even came up

Come on, Jack's alternate universe son? That's a bit of a reach. And at least Jack started out in a pretty recognizable and sympathetic place: I thought he was a very good protagonist for the first season (as was Kate) which is way more than I can say for Ben. Shannon and Boone weren't great but I still probably had

I definitely had to stifle my laughter at that one (since I'm at work). But it's true, Dobrev was fantastic. It's amazing how much she's grown as an actress, at this point she can pretty much knock whatever material the writers choose to give her out of the park. The Emmy's really ought to take a close look at her

Awesome! I was so confused to come here and see the B+ grade, until I realized that it was second opinions week. Given how much you love the show (and that you gave Memorial an A) I was sure you would give it an A. This was easily the best episode of the season for me, and made me regret a couple of the As I gave

I think Lynch is more of a make it up as he goes type, I doubt he had very much in the way of long term plans beyond an episode or two. The last episode mostly just seemed designed to be as weird as possible and blow up the whole plot since the show was about to end anyway (and I loved it). It would be pretty great to

Ideally Elena would have made Damon tell her to turn off her emotions: at least then she would have some agency in the action and it would be kind of an interesting twist that would question who had the real power in this whole sire bond situation. Still I thought it was a good twist, and it seems like they set up the

It's pretty hard to imagine a version of this show set outside of Mystic Falls, it's been so reluctant to leave it for any lengthy period of time. Then again it's a pretty general and nonspecific setting so I'm not sure moving the characters out would accomplish much. I can't imagine Elena would go to college since

Definitely agree. When Matt walked in that room while Elena was having her freak out towards the beginning, the tears started to come. That scene was really heartbreaking. I think Matt and Elena have one of my favorite relationships in the show, any scene with just the two of them is gold. Kind of like Katherine, it

@avclub-578084d7f45d5e3d03969d8d173c2b0f:disqus My big problem with the first season is that it didn't accomplish nearly as much world building as it should have, given how little plot there was. The complex character pasts that were apparently detailed in the series bible were barely alluded to and the mythology

That would be pretty amazing. I kind of doubt they could wrangle David Lynch though, and if they did he'd probably just want to talk about transcendental meditation or something. Maybe they could get Mark Frost and Bob Engels though?

Do people really think that Tyler is gone for the rest of the season? It seemed like an obvious ploy to cut down on the number of episodes he's in, like Jeremy leaving Mystic Falls last season. I'm sure he'll back in a few episodes.
