Absolutely it's about money.  These reality shows cost almost nothing to produce when compared with scripted shows.  For what Charlie Sheen would have wanted for one episode of Two and a Half Men, you could probably do 5 or 6 whole episodes of one of those Real Housewives piece of garbage spinoffs.

I wonder about that - everyone on Hell's Kitchen smokes, even though (they say) it's supposed to be terrible for your palate.  I'm sure I've seen someone on Top Chef smoke, but I can't remember it specifically offhand.  I definitely don't think it's 100%.
