I still have the NatLamp issue with "Vacation '58." What I liked about Hughes' stuff for the mag was that he captured beautifully the feel of something written by a kid.
No Bucky, you remember it well. It's still a goldmine; I was paging through it a bit before posting here and was laughing at stuff I've read a dozen times. I bet even the hipsters on this site would get an incredible kick out of it, even today.
It's one of my most treasured books. In 8th grade, we especially loved reading the names in Homeroom 309, with Olga Fokyrcelf, Anita Hahnjob, Jack Hoff, Harry P. Ness and Hugh G. Rection, among others.
