I hated the new Star Wars because it was hacky, cringe-inducing, and contained far too much CGI to the point of distraction. I liked the new Star Trek because it was fun and not shitty like the new Star Wars.

It's always easier to tell a story when the characters are well-known; you save so much time on character building you can jump right into the action.

I had that problem once where it skipped scenes; you need to uncheck the "Live edit my movie" box in your options. I have no idea why that's the default but it did make The Five-Year Engagement way tighter.

Oh it's worth watching for the pure ridiculousness of it all. The acting isn't even bad or anything, but with scripts that contained words and actions which made sense it could be much better.
