Absolutely ridiculous! He didn't go into this wanting to help people.

So the AVC is just a regular news site now?

Yeah, Kanye at least (usually) has the self-awareness to understand that his issues are his alone. He's very, very good at exploring his own neuroses, and that's usually what he sticks to. He (usually) doesn't pretend to be a spokesperson for any cause other than whatever he's thinking at the moment.

Thing is, Lena Dunham is kind of an idiot. This isn't any random famous woman being crucified for a dumb comment, this is someone who has been making dumb comments for their entire career.

They matter, but I don't think they matter as much as you think they do.

She's a narcissist in a very recognizable way - everybody knows or has known someone like her. Whereas somebody like, say, Kanye West is practically a cartoon. Which is not to excuse him, but just that Dunham is more viscerally irritating for some people because her brand of narcissism is more recognizable.

Please don't insult Tina Fey by making that comparison.

Is he really championed for it? It wasn't the only pro-LGBT statement he made and certainly not one I've heard cited as an example of his progressive politics. He'd probably get a lot of shit for it if he were around today and said it.

There are so many better things to criticize her for, though.

Pretty sure it's a humiliation/degradation thing.

All that really means is that it can, and probably will, always get worse.

Thanks, cub. I'll check that out.

It kind of helped that he phrased it in a fairly jokey way and usually came off a lot more like a genuine lost soul searching for an identity than Lena Dunham.

Hell yes, the AVC readership finally acknowledging Bon Iver's godliness

That's wonderful! I'm really happy for you.

I stopped following that bot because it started resembling actual thinkpieces a little too closely.

Just since I figure I should provide sources for stuff like that:

I think there's a difference between sometimes making dumb statements and repeatedly making the same sort of dumb statement. The latter implies that it's less of a mistake and more of a genuine belief.

I mean, I generally think this sort of pearl-clutching is ridiculous, but she has a long history of acting like other people's serious issues are hip trends to hop on.

She desperately wants to be gay, too, as she's openly admitted. She is the queen of turning other people's real struggles into accessories.
