I will be shocked if the show ends without having at least one of the six major characters suffering a brutal death. It could be murder, or even an accident, but the only way for the show to put an exclamation point on its final episodes is through the death of someone close to all of them and all of us.
It was pretty damn unique for a show that was compared to Weeds when it came out. I wasn't quite hooked until the third ep, but in retrospect everything about it was top quality. I'll still have Mad Men, but the end is in sight for that too.
Give it an A!
That's a race men can win every single time that they want to. But then they will deservedly be called losers.
Interesting. I thought this ep was measurably better than the (admittedly beguiling but enigmatic) The Crash from two weeks ago that got a 100% pure A. At least this time I was able to define all the turning points and enjoyed the lively direction by Slattery.
Be patient about Lucrezia's skill with poisoning, Les. As I recall, it was only after her second marriage that she became adept enough to employ it. That vial the old witch gave her will be burning a hole in her bosom until she puts it to good use.
Zing! I'm laughing. But you started it.
At least whittling would make you a creator instead of an observer of others' creative works. I mean, there's a lot of people producing creative stuff in between watching creative stuff to be more creative themselves and then also comment on creative stuff to become more creative.
Anything worth saying about Mad Men should be saved for the Mad Men reviews (for posterity's sake). Plus, you'd inevitably end up with double postings ("I mentioned this on The Killing comment board, but…") and that would get quickly annoying.
I completely understand the vitriol this show generates. The bullshit tail end of S1, the multiple, often transparent red herrings, the sometimes awful scripting; but I never shit on this show for being pure crap, and then I was rewarded for reserving judgment when I found a show I could truly get fucking pissed at: Th…
I don't remember if it was the final episode, but it was a beautiful way to close the original series. The sentiments expressed by Carol O'Connor were so poignant.
I just ordered the DVD set, so I will appreciate your being careful. Not that I found any egregious spoilers that weren't marked. But then, I did completely skip the one post that warned Major Spoilers and several comments that came after it.
I still have all of my Richard Pryor vinyl albums, bought fresh off the rack when they came out. Which makes me kinda sad how old I am but kinda proud how long I've been a fan of Richard Pryor.
Of all the cooking shows that I have no interest in, this is the one that I might've had an interest in if it was truly a killer show. I like baking. Baking is an undervalued art form. Awesome baked goods are manna from heaven on the palate. And it's true that you really “can’t make a real Southern biscuit without…
While I believe Kevin seems to be erroneously categorizing this show as a reality-based dramedy instead of a campy, fantasy-based comedy with occasional dramatic elements (designed to feel real, but cursed to be faux), I will admit that his criticism of the characters and the long-term plotting is legitimate, as long…
I don't know if I was really a freak or a geek, but I totally got into punk and new wave music in my junior and senior years ('76-78). Costello, Clash, Blondie, The Pretenders and the Sex Pistols (plus local bands like The Pop and Pearl Harbor and the Explosions) took over my life at that point in time, and I've been…
After reading all these comments, I'm almost embarrassed to say my 10-year reunion was one of the greatest nights of my life. Because I WAS a geek in high school (braces, glasses, art class, lit journal contributor), and only other geeks really liked me in high school.
I just had to do it:
Yes to both The Wonder Years and Malcolm!
