This is only tangentially related to the article, but has anyone here seen the Ken Loach Spanish Civil War film, Land and Freedom, and if so, would you recommend it?

Hey, this is only tangentially related, but aren't the BBC and HBO making a WW1 miniseries this year with Benedict Cumberbatch? Does anyone know anything about this?

I can't wait either, if only because my enormous store of hilarious Bin Laden jokes would once again become relevant.

Woo! I got the boxed set of The Thick of It for Christmas. Great show. Don't know whether it's on DVD in the US , @avclub-c21cf5e9103365de9f6d4584276ef9ac:disqus , but the whole series is on Youtube. So if you don't have any moral qualms, here you go:http://www.youtube.com/watc…

I got Season 1 of The Wire for Christmas, and while I've been really enjoying it, what was up with that chess scene. I'd heard it mentioned as one of the series' best moments, but it just seemed so out of character and contrived for the show. Thoughts? (Christ, now no one's going to reply, and my comment will just sit

God, Angry Boys was bad. You couldn't really escape the advertising here in Australia, so I guess I was probably tired of it before it even started. There was a fair amount of funny stuff in the first episode, but as soon as the non-Australian characters were introduced it went downhill. I guess Chris Lilley's

No. No, he didn't.

Well, thanks for replying. I think both bands are fairly average indie pop style of thing, with a few good songs where they rise above the tweeness.
Good choices though, especially with Seeker Lover keeper, Kimbra and Gotye.

As an Australian, I'd like to know whether you've heard any Boy & Bear (this year's music success story down under) or the Panics, and if so, what did you think of them?
Sorry, I should probably clarify that: I'm Australian, and I'd like an "outsider's" view on some of this year's popular Australian music.

I threw that shit before I even came in the room!

In Australia, most of the commercial station's digital channels are given over to "classic" TV (I use quotation marks because you're just as likely to find a shitty 80's soap as you are to find Quantum Leap or The Virginian.)

With comments like that, are you sure you wouldn't be better off using my name?

There's a movie called The Hitcher? I really hope it's a Mighty Boosh spin off.

Was that at the Opera House? I was there too! A man behind me fell asleep and began snoring.

Really enjoyed the original season, but the second season with the Krays was a real letdown. Don't think I finished watching it, to be honest.

Leave me alone, I'm eight years old.
