It makes no sense to me.. speaking outside of the AVC ultra-nerdosphere, Community has some decent buzz going on, but most of the people I talk to IRL don't even know it's on NBC. Or whether it's cancelled or not. The momentum to reach a wider audience is dying out in favor of letting new comedies inevitably tank.
