I want this album bad
and can only find locked torrents. Help me out?
sublimely half-assed super-genius
Yes.
I wasn't going for concept albums, TWfS, I was going for "great albums that work best when listened to from start to finish."
I get the reaction to her voice, but it doesn't bother me at all. I actually like it a lot; I think she knows its limits, and her cadence fits her voice perfectly, not to mention the rhythm of her songs. Her lyrics are brilliant, but that aside, I think she makes ambitious, pretty, and above all vivid music.
I can second Illmatic*
It's a lot more difficult for me to pick out hip-hop albums that really benefit from the context of being played as an album. I'm thinking of two possible (and inter-related) suspects for this: 1) Hip-hop tends to be dominated by singles, and 2) Hip-hop albums tend to have a lot of filler (i.e. any skit ever).
It was the lack of caps.
Gold Sounds has to be my favorite.
Wow, it's an English mbs.
Add Aesop Rock's Labor Days and Television's Marquee Moon.
And if I had to pick one off of that list, it'd be Los Angeles. There's no track on that album that is anything less than face-shreddingly awesome.
I think it's pretty much saturated in a lot of circles. Just maybe not people who came of age before its release or people that wouldn't be inclined to like it anyway.
Low End Theory is the only rap album that immediately comes to mind.
If there's Radiohead it's Kid A or nothing.
I do not concur, Sister, as the statistics of my team clearly demonstrate superiority. I also put forth the corollary that I am superior to you.
I'm a big fan of playlists, although everything gets listened to all the way through at least once or twice.
Riff: Don't forget buying ironic wolf shirts shirts (http://tinyurl.com/375777) at truck stops. And I'm loving the idea of yelling first when you cross the state line.
Entanglements is fantastic, start to finish. Best album of 2008.
