The entire coverage of this incident is colored by anti-Putin/anti-Russian bias and suggests a complete misunderstanding of contemporary Russian society. The only perspective that Americans get is a very particular one.

The clear implication of this entire article is that Russian basically still has gulags (which have not existed since the 1950s) or gulag-like facilities. I don't know if you have a xenophobic misunderstanding of contemporary Russia, are ignorant of what gulags were, or both.
