Clueless Neophyte

Having been born in 1970, I came of age in the K-Tel Era.  You could get maybe 15-20 pop hits on one album (vinyl LP, of course), trimmed slightly so more would fit.  Anything from "Isn't It Time" by The Babys to "You Don't Have to be A Star" by Marilyn McCoo & Billy Davis, Jr. to the "Star wars Title Theme" by Meco.

One step at a time, @LemLemoncloak:disqus.

I'll watch the odd clip now & then, basically whatever I come across on the AV Club or on Facebook, but I haven't actually watched a late-night show live on air in years.  And I'm guessing the people who DO watch these shows don't do TiVo.

Somebody's gotta get their hands dirty & shoes muddy.

This is the coolest thing Carly Rae Jepsen will ever do.

Fair enough, @avclub-85d8ce590ad8981ca2c8286f79f59954:disqus.  But it has the least actual baseball playing in it.

Seconded on Major League.  It's a tough call.  I'd say they're at about the same level, in their respective genres (straight comedy vs. romantic comedy).  And like Bull Durham, Major League is also super-quotable:

Mrs. Neophyte & I often have cause to use the lines "We're dealing with a lot of shit here" & "Isn't that a little much for the Carolina League?" in everyday life.  Bull Durham is probably her favorite movie.

It was good, I agree, but it's probably the least basebally baseball movie ever.

Who's on first?

If you haven't lietened to Keaton's ep of Maron you really should.

John Darnielle was a really good one.

I've never watched The Shield or Justified (I know, I know), & I'm really not familiar with Walton Goggins' body of work.  Seeing him on the Nerdist agenda, I almost skipped the episode.  But I thought eh, what the hell—and it was one of the best Nerdist podcasts, ever.  Goggins was pure awesome, & his rapport with

@avclub-85ffb08f91a83b6566467b942828a560:disqus is the worst.

"Golden Throats" sounds like a very different compilation, to me.

Even worse: Famous people, by virtue of being famous, get breaks they would NEVER get based on talent.  That feels like an outright theft to me.  I mean, I know there's not a finite number of singers or songs, but whenever I see someone so completely undeserving given the chance to record music, I can't help but feel

You mean "the chorus sounds like the best doorbell in the history of doorbells".

Boomers are the worst.  Mrs. Neophyte, ordinarily a pretty tolerant person, fucking HATES the boomer nostalgia/narcissism, even more than I do (& I'm a semi-pro hater).  Side note: She's also quite violently opposed to wizards & shit.

Oh, you KNOW he was.  This clip has made the rounds of course, but I'm always left wishing it wasn't such poor quality—I'd like to get a better look at them dancers!
