He's not conflating homosexuality and child sex abuse.  He's just saying it's easier for society to condone the latter because of its visceral reaction to the other.

I wish she was busy with my dick.

He probably had a SEGA Genesis and a rat's tail haircut too because his parents were white trash.

I mostly agree but I'm 29 and I copped out at Hey, Arnold.

To back you up:
While I began to get fed up with Martin in the second book, book three was too much for me as well, and I quit there.

Out of curiosity, why do you think the Wire has aged poorly?  I think the lack of HD hurts it, and especially in the earlier seasons the technology seems laughably out of date, but its manner of story telling, cynical view point, or the target it chooses to criticize, it seems very contemporary.

No way.  I stopped reading the books in the middle of the third book.  Though I don't consider the TV show at the level of The Wire or Mad Men or Deadwood, I might be able to sustain enough interest to keep watching.

No, the flashback wouldn't have worked and in a cast of nearly all white people, it's difficult to keep them straight.  There's no way on earth I would remember a third or fourth tier character like The Tickler into next season.

In response to Ellen - I remember being so tired and bored of Bran whining about being a gimp in the books that I wished the fall had broken his neck.  In shortening his arc, the show's done a great service.

I'm sorry, I missed when we moved the discussion moved from discussing the adaptation of a sometimes laughably bad fantasy pulp novel series, to Deadwood.
